I will be doing a presentation of director Tom Hooper to a group of film enthusiasts and makers in West Point Grey on Thursday, December 2nd from 7:30PM-9:30PM in anticipation of the release of his film The King’s Speech.
The evening will consist mostly of clips from the TV movies and films that Tom Hooper has directed up until The King’s Speech, arguing for particular themes and styles that I’ve found in all of his films.
(I’ve done nights like this in the past for directors like Cameron Crowe and Billy Wilder. I use them as an excuse to do my own personal study of a filmmaker I admire.)
My goal is to make your viewing of The King’s Speech a richer experience for having some familiarity with Hooper’s previous work. He is, in my estimation, one of the best director’s working today and will soon be a more familiar name to North American audiences.
The King’s Speech, which won the People’s Choice Award at T.I.F.F. this year, will have an advance screening on the morning of Sunday, Dec 5th at 10AM at Fifth Ave cinemas. Check the website for tickets. (I’ll be there.) It opens more widely on Dec. 10th.
